I forgot to mention in my previous post that we had to take my baby girl dog, Lady Belle, to the vet yesterday. The tumor in her mouth (that was removed a few months ago) is growing back. That tumor was malignant. :( It's growing back but it's still very small so he gave us an antibiotic and a pain pill to make her more comfortable. We go back in 3 weeks to check it again. If it continues to grow, we won't be putting her through surgery again. She's 15...that would be pointless. But I'm not sure what the plan will be yet. Have to cross that bridge when we get there. But I'm sure her time is coming to an end...I'm guessing she has less than a year. But who knows...my childhood dog, Gizmo, surprised us all by living to be 18!! It will be very difficult if this is the end because Lady was my first "baby". I got her in 1996 (she was approx. 2 years old when we got her) and she was my only dog for years. I, of course, treated her like she was my child because she was my child. Thinking of life without her is difficult and will be sad. But I know she'll be better off because she is very old. I don't know if she's suffering because she shakes a lot, doesn't eat much, can't control her bladder anymore and is in a diaper all the time, and can't hear a thing. She can only hear me clap and she's very slow going most of the time. However, when she's excited she jumps like a crazy head and runs all over the house! Sometimes she still seems like a puppy, but most of the time she acts like she's 100 years old. Poor girl. She is the little one on the left:

  1. Man, I know how you feel about even the though of losing your first baby! I got my first "baby" Peace (cat) in 1993 when she was 6 months old. Got my second when she was 5 months old in 1994 & she was got sick in April 2006 and I had to put her down. Then in Nov of 2006 Peace got really sick & I had to put her down. For months I could not get another cat b/c everytime I went to a shelter to look for one, I would find myself crying. I still have a picture of Peace up on the fridge & one of both of the girls in the basement with my craft stuff. Good luck Gretch! :( Hard times I know.
